National Student Employment Week

Celebrating the Contributions of Student Employees 

The University of Central Missouri's Human Resources Office has created events for a week-long celebration on the 2nd full week of April, April 8th - 12th, 2024 to recognize the campus student employees.  This is an occasion devoted to our hard-working, dedicated students that serve the departments of the University of Central Missouri. 

2023 Student Employee of the Year

Donavan Hoyes - 1st place winner

1st Place - Donavan Hoyes

Donavan works for the Office of Human Resources. He received a $500 award sponsored by American Electric Cooperative, Inc.

Kara Henderson - Second Place Winner

2nd Place - Kara Henderson

Kara works for the Career & Life Design Center. She received a $250 award sponsored by McConnell & Associates.

McKenna Strodtman - Third Place Winner

3rd Place - McKenna Strodtman

McKenna works for the Success Advising Center. She received a $100 award sponsored by the Missouri Division of Social Services.

UCM National Student Employment Week

Allow Us to Show Our Appreciation

Monday, April 8th, 2024
Student employees are encouraged to stop by the Office of Human Resources (Administration, 100) to enjoy a free coffee and breakfast bar from 8:30am - 10:30am. Student employees will receive an email with an RSVP link as well as a ticket. The student must have the physical ticket present to participate in this event.

The Student Employee of the Year Recognition Banquet will be held on Monday, April 8th at 2:00pm . This event is by invite only.

Lucky Duck Day #1 -  UCM is one "lucky duck" to have you as an employee!  Find the rubber ducks hidden all over campus!  For every rubber duck you find and bring to HR, you will receive a prize. Check your employee email for hints where the ducks are hidden!

Lucky Duck Day #2

Trivia Tuesday! In the email to your employee email there will be a list of 10 trivia questions . Answer all 10 correctly and you will be entered for the drawings throughout the week!

UCM Bingo - Join us in North Morrow 121 from 3:00pm - 4:30pm to play UCM Bingo! Win prizes as you win - come and go as you please!

Bracelet Making Station - Visit ADMIN 100 anytime from 11:00am - 1:00pm to make a bracelet. Keep it for yourself or share with a friend or coworker!

Department Day - Departments, please find a way to celebrate your student workers for all their hard work and dedication to your department.

Dress As Your Supervisor - Student Employees, dress as your supervisor and email a picture of the two of you together to humanresources@ucmo.edu to be entered into Friday's drawing!

Recognizing Student Employee Contributions

Each year, the (NSEA) declares a full week in April to be National Student Employment Week.

Human Resources at the University of Central Missouri (UCM) is a member of NSEA. Here at UCM, over 1,000 students are employed by the university, playing a key role in our educational and operational excellence.

Student employees perform invaluable services with enthusiasm, dedication, and initiative. At the same time, they develop important skills and experience that will assist them in their future careers.

UCM Student Employee of the Year Nomination Process (SEOTY)

The purpose of this award is to recognize the outstanding contributions and achievements of students who work while attending college.

The criteria to be eligible to be nominated for SEOTY:

  • Student employees must have worked a minimum of six months part time or three months full-time between May 2023 - February 2024.
  • Student must be in an undergraduate program; graduate students and teaching assistants are not eligible for this award. 

Students will be evaluated on the following qualities:

  1. Community Service
  2. Diversity & inclusion
  3. Leadership
  4. Technology & Innovation
  5. Critical Thinking

The UCM Student Employee of the Year Committee are comprised of faculty and staff across campus.

2024 Timetable

 

Regional Coordinators distribute announcement and application materials to their members and NSEA members in their region.

February 16

UCM SEOTY nominations are due to the Human Resources by February 16th, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.

February 19

All nominations are provided to the nomination committee. The nomination committee rubrics are due to Human Resources by February 23rd at 5:00pm

 

The top three employees evaluated from the nomination committee will then move onto the interview committee to again be evaluated to determine UCM's first, second. and third place winners.

March 1

UCM's first place winner is submitted to MASEA by March 1, 2024.

 

National Student Employee of the Year is selected and winner's school is notified by the NSEA President.

April 8 - 12

National Student Employment Week observed April 8th - 12th. National SEOTY winner announced and runner-up finalists notified. National SEOTY award is presented at winner's campus.
