Everything in the business world rests on great finance. In the University of Central Missouri’s Finance BSBA program, you’ll learn what it takes to make a company successful in one of the field’s three main areas:

What you will study

As an undergraduate student in the Finance bachelor’s degree program at the University of Central Missouri, you’ll take core classes that give you an understanding of the fundamentals of business and how financial analysis plays an integral part in it. Those classes may include:

  • Business Statistics I and II
  • Credit and Financial Statement Analysis
  • Financial Management
  • Intermediate Microeconomics
  • Management of Organizations
  • Money and Banking
  • Principles of Managerial Accounting

You’ll also get the chance to add specialized elective courses to your Finance BSBA to focus your undergraduate studies in a particular area of interest. Electives range in topics from international finance to the insurance industry.

  • Internships: Take advantage of UCM’s location near Kansas City to learn on-the-job skills in an internship. Past UCM students have experienced what it’s like to work at jobs with a finance degree while interning with organizations such as the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, American Century Investments and State Street Corporation.
  • Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF): Get practical knowledge in security analysis and portfolio management in this highly interactive learning experience. Manage real funds based on current events in the student trading room using Bloomberg workstations and build reports based on your recommendations to walk others through your decision-making process.
  • Integrative Business Experience (IBE): In IBE, you’ll learn the fundamentals of how businesses run through the management, marketing and finance perspectives — from inception through daily operations. Over the course of a semester in UCM’s Finance bachelor’s program, you’ll run your business, draw in earnings and then use your profits to fund a community service project for a local nonprofit organization.
  • Student life: Network with other undergraduate students in UCM’s Finance bachelor’s program in organizations such as the Crypto Club or Student Finance Association, which organizes student-faculty meet-and-greets, social activities and opportunities for knowledge-sharing.
